Four-channel ABI test and its problems
As mentioned in previous posts; ABI test is performed to diagnose Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).
if the ABI test, which is based on volumetric plethysmography, is measured by a comprehensive device, that can provide other useful information to the Doctor with the help of embedded algorithms and sensors. But sometimes, ABI alone cannot be the answer to all diseases. In some cases, although the patient’s ABI test is normal, the legs have PAD symptoms.
In these cases, only the Pulse Wave Index (PWI) can help.
PWI; One of the most important indicators
The Pulse Wave Index is a clear and sensitive parameter based on pulse wave shape to determine the severity of blood flow disorders in significantly less time.
How to measure PWI?
SOT’s ABI devices are the only devices that can provide the following parameters at the same time as ABI measurement:
• PWI
• Amplitude
• Oscillometric Index
• Rise Time
• Fall Time
• Rise to Fall
•Time Shift
• Pulse Wave Velocity
• Heart Rate Variability
How to calculate the PWI with the help of an example:

AngE Pro 8 device report sample and measured parameters:

This report is related to a patient who, despite a normal ABI index, does not have healthy vessels, and the high PWI index is proof of this. As can be seen in this report, in addition to ABI, other indicators such as PWI, PWV and other important parameters can also be seen.
